I was tired, as I'd expect to be by that stage in the walk, and I knew the waterproofs had caused me to overheat a bit (and, to be honest, I was as wet from sweat as I would have been from the rain) but there was no twinge or warning.

In all seriousness, if I'd been on a narrow ridge I might well have fallen off.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217448534651277899.post-41343117058039085902011-08-11T19:24:09.454+01:002011-08-11T19:24:09.454+01:00That must have been scary. So, sorry to hear you missed Ingleborough because of it, but Im glad it did'nt occur on your drive home too!
But this is a hell of a challenge so well done for getting back to Horton.
One chap with us decided to give up at checkpoint 5 and they got an ambulance for him.
Thanks for the comment :)Fell_Finderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10715588748819622931noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217448534651277899.post-44798574824143520352011-08-11T18:49:39.790+01:002011-08-11T18:49:39.790+01:00I have unhappy memories of the three peaks from ab...I have unhappy memories of the three peaks from about 10 years back. Our route (I was part of a group) was pretty much identical to yours and it was a warm, wet day; the kind of weather where waterproofs are needed but are also just too hot.

Just near the summit of Whernside, without warning, I had the worst attack of cramp I've ever experienced from either walking or running. Eventually, after litres of fluid and a couple of bags of salty crisps, I managed to get going again, but the muscle ache returned on that rocky part of the descent from Whernside.

Common sense dictated taking the low level route back to Horton and I never got to do the third peak of the three.

I had two more attacks of cramp on the way back home. Fortunately, neither of them was on the M6.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
